I'm Leading. Is Anyone Following? by Neal
I think a leaders should be persistent in the things the people care about. If something doesn't happen the first time, he tries to change it. He would keep pushing towards his goal.
Leaders should be wise because if a hard decision comes up the person who is wise, not smart, should make the decision. Being wise is based on amount of experience. Being smart is based upon amount of knowledge.
It is impoartant for a leader to have a sense of humor because if something comes up that makes everyone tense and stressed, someone has to loosen up the situation with a good joke.
A good leader should do things that lead him to be respected. If the leader isn't respected, no one will listen to him and the group would fall apart. Later on they would not want to have him again as their leader. This would be because he did some things that led him not to be respected the first time.
A good leader put others before himself because if he doesn't then people are led to think that he is only being the leader because there is something in ti for him, nothing for them and they get another leader.
A good leader should have vision or else no one will have any reason to be part of his group because they need a goal to follow.
I think John A. MacDonald, the first Prime Minister of Canada, was a good leader because he had a sense of humor which helped him through hard times. This quote is an example of his humor: "When fortune empties her chamberpot on your head, smile and say 'we are going to have a summer shower!'."
he must have been mature and wise because he was head of several different ministries.
I think he was trustworthy because the people of Canada elected him to be their Prime Minister four times. Canadians wouldn't have elected him if they didn't trust him.
There were several things about John A. MacDonald that showed that he had vision for our country. His vision was for Canada. He was the Father of Confederation. He was part of the group that came up with the idea of all Canada's provinces joining in a Confederation. He was instrumental in the building of the Canadian Pacific Railway which united western and eastern Canada. He participate din creating the provinces of Manitoba, British Columbia and Prince Edward Island.
Even though John A. Macdonald did have some leadership problems, al in all he succeeded in bringing Cnaada together a s a country. that was a very important accomplishment.
STUDENT QUOTES ON LEADERSHIP
"It is important to be honest because if a leader is not honest the people will not know when to believe them and when not to. A leader will not have a lot of people in favour of them if they are not trustworthy.
-Cole
"What I found out was that it is not always as easy as it seems to be a leader of a country. You need to be responsible, wise and of exemplary character. Here in Canada we have had a rich history of Prime Ministers anf leaders. Though they all were not perfect, they all did a part in helping our country be what it is.
-Alyssa
"I have learned a lot about choosing a leader. The qualities that I have shared are the basics. I think the most important quality is to be honest and to trust other people. That has a lot of impact on their followers.
-Ashton
"I think I learned alot about the skills required to serve the position of a leader. You need to be honest, understanding, a good communicator, responsible, reliable, a good collaborative worker, and very trustworthy. Prime minister of Canada: if you are all of these things, you are leading and I am following!!"
-Amanda
"We have discovered how weaknesses and strengths are exhibited in leaders. Good people can make poor leaders. Even though a leader is strong, they can still make mistakes and even a weak leader has strengths. In summary, we have learned that the best way to choose a good leader is to know as much as possible about that person before you vote for them. Poor leaders can make disasterous decisions that can effect the whole country for many generations to come.
-Shannon and Claire
"A leader needs to be able to make his mind up and stick to it. Sometimes a leader has to make a decision thta is unpopular with the people, but if he believes it to be the right choice for the masses he must stand by his decision."
-Carson
" A good leader needs to make others feel important. If the leader is always the important one, others will not be inclined to follow him."
-Ashton
"A leader needs to get out in front. You can't lead from behind. If you are going to be a leader, you have to act like one."
-Ashton
"My third criterion for a leader is that they must have a vision for the people theyare leading. "Without vision, the people perish",(Proverbs 29:18.Vision is the ability to see what the end looks like before you start."
-Sarah
" A leader needs to have the thrill of challenges. I think this is important because if a leader does not have the thrill for challenges then he will not want to tackle problems- he might just ignore that the probelm exists."
-Caitlin
